After numerous rock climbing trips to Joshua Tree National Park over the past 15+ years, we've observed:
The Trad* Guide to Joshua Tree was written especially for moderate climbers looking for fun routes. It contains detailed maps, directions, and photos for locating each of 60 favorite rock climbs, sun/shade info, descent instructions, and pro suggestions. There is a large, full-color photo of every route, plus other photos showing details of the approach for the more complex areas. Autographed copies of "The Trad Guide to Joshua Tree" are available directly from the authors. Click for more information: (thanks for supporting us "little guys"!)

* For those of you non-climbers wondering what "Trad" means -- it's short for a "Traditional" style of rock climbing. Climbers use ropes, harnesses, and a variety of devices called "Pro" (short for "protection") to protect them in case they fall while climbing. However, they climb using only their own hands and feet to proceed; the rope and other items are not used to pull themselves up or to hold onto. Here's a site that provides more details. By the way, climbers rarely "hammer those things into the rock" any more. The Pro we use is designed to be removed and reused, and to not damage the rock the way pitons did in the old days.
Thanks for supporting us "little guys" with your purchase of this guidebook directly from the authors. We earn a very small royalty (less than $1.00 per copy) on sales of our books by on-line and "brick & mortar" bookstores; our publisher and the bookstores all make considerably more on each sale than we do as authors. By buying directly from us today, we earned as much for our book as any small bookstore would earn -- and that really helps us recover our costs! Thanks again!
